Honor's Courses

Honors Courses:

Warrenton High School offers a number of honors classes, most of which are dual college/high school credit classes.  Many of our students graduate with one year’s worth of college credits completed without leaving campus. Honors classes are graded on a 5 point weighted scale.

Honors Classes offered at WHS:

College Spanish 101-103 (H) (06103) (Elective) (Grades 10-12) (1 credit)/(12 college credits)

Spanish III/Spanish 101, 102, 103 is for advanced students who have demonstrated proficiency of Spanish I and Spanish II skills. This course is communication and writing intensive with applications of Spanish I and II instruction and will follow the college curriculum for Spanish 101, 102, 103. This course meets the foreign language requirement. Instructor approval required. There is a fee required to earn college credit for this course.

College Writing 121/122 (H) (Elective) (Grades 11- 12) (.5 credit per semester) (6 college credits)

This is a dual credit course through Clatsop Community College. Students successfully completing this course may earn up to six college credits. Students develop skills in writing exposition, description, narration, and persuasion. Selected readings illustrate excellence in style and demonstrate types of writing being practiced. Emphasizes correction of common errors and vocabulary improvement. May count as a required English class with principal’s approval. Instructor approval is required. There is a fee required to earn college credit for this course.

Algebra 2 (H)/Math 111 (02056) (Required) (Grades 9-12) (1 credit)/(4 college credits)

Students learn to graph quadratic equations, how to use the quadratic equation, and how to solve functions. Students learn how to use logarithms, solve complex numbers, as well as solve matrices. Algebra 2 will help students in the mathematics sections of the college entrance exams. This course helps improve mathematical skills involved with basic skills needed for college. This class will also cover all the topics covered in Math 111 at Clatsop Community College. (Required for admission to Oregon University System School). There is a fee required to earn college credit for this course.

Pre-Calculus (H)/Math 112, 116 (02110) (Elective) (Grades 11-12) (1 credit)/(8 college credits)

Students learn to solve and to graph trigonometric and circular functions along with transformations of these functions. Topics include analytic geometry, probability, combinations, statistics, and limits. There is a fee required to earn college credit for this course.

Calculus (H)/Math 251, 252 (02121) (Elective) (Grade 12) (1 credit)/(9 college credits)

Students will learn differentiation with an emphasis on concept applications to the real world. Exploring graphical, numerical and analytic approaches. Students will utilize concept of integration and master anti-derivative, integration by substitution and parts. Students will read, understand and discuss applied differential calculus concepts. There is a fee required to earn college credit for this course.

Chemistry (H)/Chem 104, 105 (03101) (Elective) (Grades 10-12) (1 credit)(8 college credits)

This is a laboratory-based class designed to cover the main concepts of inorganic chemistry. These include ionic and covalent bonding, behavior of gases, electrochemistry, and acids and bases. The focus is also on the scientific method of doing research through designing and conducting numerous experiments. Must have completed/or be currently enrolled in Algebra II.

Physics (H) (03151) (Elective) (Grades 11-12) (1 credit)

This is a laboratory-based class, which investigates physical phenomenon. The focus is on electricity and magnetism, light and radiation, and forces and motion. There is also a focus on the scientific method of doing research through designing and conducting numerous experiments. Projects such as building generators and mortars are also included. Must have completed/or be currently enrolled in Algebra 2.

Anatomy & Physiology (H)/Biology 121, 122 (03053) (Elective) (Grades 10-12) (2 credit)/(8 college credits)

This is an advanced biological science that is geared towards students who are interested in the medical field. The class examines the structure and function of the human body including all characteristics, tissue, organs, and body systems. The class covers the following systems: integumentary, musculoskeletal, nervous system, and special senses. Dissections of organs are part of the hands-on experience of the class. Students must have completed Biology to enroll in this class. There is a fee required to earn college credit for this course.
