The rate of new COVID cases in Clatsop County has decreased since the surge in cases related to the Pacific Seafood outbreak in late September.
While the metrics in recent weeks have not yet receded to levels that will allow in-person instruction in all K – 12th grades, they have receded to levels that allow us to plan for students in grades K – 3 to return to in-person instruction by the middle of next week.
The county metrics for positivity rates and case rates have been met each of the past two weeks. If the metrics are met again this week, we will have students in grades K – 3 return to school for in-person instruction on Wednesday, October 28th and on Thursday, October 29th. The school day will run from 8:00 AM to 1:30 PM.
K – 3 students would then resume their weekly schedule of daily in-person instruction Monday through Thursday from 8:00 AM to 1:30 PM the following week.
I will be in close contact with the Clatsop County Public Health Department this week to monitor the number of new cases. I will provide you an update on Friday to confirm that this week's case rate still projects to our K - 3 students returning for in-person instruction next Wednesday.
