About WHS

Warrenton High School is a special place.  At first glance, you will see a traditional high school on a seven period schedule. As you walk through campus, you will notice subtle differences in the way the school “feels.”  You will experience a welcoming atmosphere, high expectations, and a supportive environment in which all students can find success.

Through the Coastal Commitment with Clatsop Community College, WHS offers 14 college credit classes on campus.  Our students are also able to attend CCC classes through dual enrollment. Many of our students earn nearly a year of college credits without leaving campus.  This partnership allows WHS to offer a more rich and challenging curriculum giving our students a “leg up” as they transition to college or trade school.

Our Career Technology Education (CTE) classes are growing.  Next year we will be offering on campus courses in graphic design, fisheries, STEM, and new classes in  welding and autos. These courses will give us the opportunity to complete programs of study in CTE/STEM.  We are excited to have a new building on campus to grow these programs of study in the coming years.

The fisheries program is a source of pride for our students and community.  In the early 60’s, led by a highly motivated teacher and with community support, a fish rearing operation at WHS was started.  In its humble beginnings, salmon were raised in 5 gallon buckets. In the mid 70’s, the students, staff, and parents provided the support and muscle necessary to erect a fish hatchery building.  Today, because of the work of one student’s project, WHS has a state of the art student engineered fish hatchery supported by a local non-profit. In this program, our students work with local state run hatcheries, the Skipanon Watershed Council, NOAA, and many other local partners as they study the life cycle of salmon.

Our band program has grown to establish itself as a top program as evidenced by 6 state championships and 5 runner–up awards in the last 11 years.  Approximately, 20% of our student body is currently involved in band. It is special to be a part of the Warrior Band!

Warrenton athletics have a strong history on the north coast and we are rising. Our programs compete at the 3A Classification in the Coastal Range League made up of Clatskanie, Taft, Willamina, and Rainier.  Each of our teams have enjoyed the successful seasons highlighted by the volleyball league championship and the girls basketball state qualifying team.

The WHS staff will always see our school as a work in progress. We understand the need to keep pace with industry and university standards in order to provide our students with the most up-to-date opportunities for learning and better prepare them for the future.  You will see evidence of our efforts in students' work, in the interactions between staff and students, and in the everyday operations of the school.
